Trump admits that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are hopeless, stating that the conflict may continue.
According to the Gate News bot, as reported by Jin10, former U.S. President Trump stated during a meeting with German Chancellor Merz that both Russia and Ukraine are currently not ready for peace negotiations, and mediation efforts have not been effective.
Trump revealed that Putin is planning a large-scale offensive against Ukraine in retaliation for the attack by Ukrainian forces on Russian air force bases. Although the Trump administration attempted to promote the peace process by improving US-Russia relations and reducing aid to Ukraine, Putin has not shown a willingness to accept the conditions set by Ukraine.
Trump warned that if the conflict continues, both sides may face U.S. sanctions. At the same time, he hinted that even if the fighting continues, the U.S. may maintain cooperation with Moscow on the Iran nuclear issue.
Jeffrey Edmonds, a former Defense Department official for Russia under the Biden administration, commented: "Trump has essentially surrendered; now the key is to see whether he will still maintain support for Ukraine, even if it's just symbolic."
