PeckShield: in July, the damage from hacks amounted to $142 million

As a result of July, the crypto industry lost $142 million due to 17 hacker attacks. This is 27% more than in June, when the figure was $111 million, reports PeckShield.

Top Hacks

The biggest incident last month was the hack of the Indian exchange CoinDCX, which lost $44 million. CEO of Cyvers Deddy Lavida believes that the attack was carried out by the North Korean group Lazarus Group.

The trading platform promised to fully compensate for losses using financial reserves.

According to the investigation, hackers gained access to the company's wallets through an employee's laptop. He has already been arrested by the Indian police, who continue to investigate the incident.

The second place in terms of total lost funds is occupied by the GMX hack. On July 9, the decentralized cryptocurrency exchange lost $42 million. However, two days later, the attacker returned almost all of the stolen assets.

On July 16, the trading platform BigONE was hacked. Hackers compromised the product network and altered the logic of the servers responsible for account management and risk control. The platform promised to compensate for all losses at its own expense.

In July, WOO X and Future Protocol also suffered, losing $12 million and $4.2 million, respectively.

Recall that in the first six months of 2025, losses of Web3 projects from hacks and fraud amounted to $3.1 billion. This amount has already exceeded the total for the entire year of 2024 — $2.85 billion.
