PANews reported on March 22 that, according to Ars Technica, a newly discovered vulnerability in Apple's M-series chips may lead to the leakage of wallet keys. This side-channel vulnerability allows end-to-end key extraction while Apple silicon is running a crypto wallet. Since the defect originates from the microarchitecture design of the chip, it cannot be repaired directly. The solution involves implementing defenses in third-party encryption software, which can degrade the performance of M-series chips, especially on M1 and M2 earlier products. This vulnerability can be exploited by a malicious application with normal user system privileges.
